One of Marbella’s most established and prestigious beachside neighbourhoods
Just east of Marbella, Los Monteros is one of those rare areas where luxury feels understated. Mature gardens, quiet residential streets and large private villas sit just moments from the Mediterranean, while Marbella’s restaurants, beach clubs, golf courses and international schools are all within easy reach.
For more than four decades, we’ve watched Marbella evolve, but Los Monteros has retained the qualities that made it desirable in the first place: privacy, space, established surroundings and exceptional proximity to the beach.
It is a neighbourhood for those looking for a more residential side of Marbella — without giving up the lifestyle and convenience that make the Costa del Sol so attractive.

The Marbella neighbourhood with a celebrity history
Los Monteros was one of Marbella’s original luxury destinations. Its development is closely linked to the iconic Los Monteros Hotel, created in the 1960s by Spanish banker and entrepreneur Ignacio Coca.
The hotel quickly established itself as one of Spain’s most exclusive resorts, attracting royalty, international celebrities and some of the biggest names of the era, including Sean Connery and Michael Jackson.
That history still forms part of Los Monteros’ identity today. Unlike some newer developments where exclusivity is defined by modern architecture and contemporary amenities, here it comes from something much harder to recreate: privacy, mature landscaping, generous plots and decades of history.
It is one of the reasons Los Monteros continues to appeal to an international clientele looking for a discreet and established Marbella address.

What is Los Monteros like?
Los Monteros is predominantly residential, with a mixture of large detached villas, townhouses, apartments and established residential communities.
The architecture varies from traditional Andalusian-style homes to completely renovated contemporary villas. Many properties benefit from substantial gardens, private swimming pools and views towards the Mediterranean.
One of the defining characteristics of the area is its greenery. Mature palm trees, established gardens and wide, quiet streets give Los Monteros a feeling that is increasingly difficult to find in Marbella.
And despite its peaceful atmosphere, the location is extremely convenient.
Marbella Old Town is only a short drive away, while Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucía and the Golden Mile can all be reached easily by car.

Life by the beach
For many residents, the biggest attraction is simple: you are close to the sea without having to live in the middle of a busy resort.
Los Monteros is home to one of the most attractive stretches of coastline in the eastern Marbella area, with wide sandy beaches and a relaxed atmosphere.
A morning walk along the beach, lunch overlooking the Mediterranean or an afternoon by the sea can become part of everyday life rather than something reserved for holidays.
The renowned La Cabane Beach Club is also nearby, adding a more sophisticated beachside experience to the neighbourhood.

Golf, tennis and outdoor living
Los Monteros is particularly well positioned for people who enjoy an active lifestyle.
Several of Marbella’s best-known golf courses are within a short drive, while tennis and padel facilities can also be found nearby. The coastline provides opportunities for walking, running and cycling, and the wider Marbella area offers everything from water sports to hiking in the Sierra de las Nieves.
For golf lovers, the eastern side of Marbella is especially appealing, with courses including Santa Clara Golf, Rio Real Golf and Marbella Golf Country Club within easy reach.
This combination of beach, golf and outdoor activities is a major part of the appeal of living in Los Monteros year-round.

Where is Los Monteros?
Los Monteros is located on the eastern side of Marbella, approximately 5–10 minutes from Marbella Old Town and around 15–20 minutes from Puerto Banús, depending on traffic.
Its position provides a useful balance between accessibility and privacy. You are close enough to Marbella’s restaurants, shopping and nightlife to enjoy everything the town has to offer, while returning home to a quieter residential environment.

Property for sale in Los Monteros
Property in Los Monteros is particularly attractive to buyers looking for space, privacy and proximity to the beach.
The area offers a diverse selection of homes, including:
- Luxury villas with private swimming pools
- Renovated contemporary villas
- Traditional Andalusian-style properties
- Townhouses in established communities
- Beachside apartments and penthouses
- Properties with sea views
- Large plots suitable for redevelopment
One of the defining characteristics of the Los Monteros property market is the limited supply of large, established plots.
Much of the neighbourhood was developed decades ago, meaning there is considerably less scope for new construction than in some of Marbella’s newer residential areas. For buyers, this scarcity can be an important part of the area’s long-term appeal.

Is Los Monteros a good place to live?
For the right buyer, absolutely.
Los Monteros is particularly well suited to people who value privacy and a residential atmosphere but still want to be close to Marbella’s lifestyle.
It works equally well as a permanent home, a second residence or a luxury investment property.
The appeal is less about being in the centre of the action and more about being able to reach it whenever you want — while enjoying peace and space when you return home.
Los Monteros vs. other areas of Marbella
Los Monteros has a distinctly different character from some of Marbella’s other prime residential areas.
If Nueva Andalucía is known for golf, restaurants and a more energetic international atmosphere, and the Golden Mile for its proximity to Puerto Banús and beachfront luxury, Los Monteros feels more established and residential.
It is particularly attractive for buyers who prioritise privacy, land and proximity to the beach over being surrounded by shops and nightlife.
And while areas such as La Zagaleta offer exceptional security and mountain privacy, Los Monteros offers something quite different: the Mediterranean lifestyle right outside your door.
